About Younus Hussain Khan

Yunus Hussain Khan (1927-1991), was born in Agra on November 15, 1927. He studied mainly under his father Vilayat Husain, and used to sing with him as a supporting musician at a very young age. He studied also under Faiyaz Husain Khan and his maternal uncle Azmat Husain Khan of Atrauli…He composed for radio under the pen-name ‘Darpan’. For a time he was attached to the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts at Delhi University. For some time he was associated with the Sangeet Research Academy (Calcutta)…Before his retirement he became a professor of music at the Vishva Bharati University in Shantiniketan. He died on September 29, 1991 of a heart-attack in New Delhi.
