About Nivruttibuwa Sarnaik
Nivruttibuwa Sarnaik (1912-1994) was a vocalist of unusual power and beauty. He was a specialist in vakra and anwat ragas. He imbibed his early musical values from the likes of Abdul Karim Khan (who was one of the teacher’s of his uncle, Shankarrao Sarnaik) and Sawai Gandharva. However, Nivruttibuwa took his primary taleem from the great vocalist Rajab Ali Khan. Nivruttibuwa was also significantly influenced by Alladiya Khan’s gayaki embodied in the style of the Atrauli-Jaipur school.
