About Panchakshari Mattigatti
Panchakshariswamy Mattigatti was born on October 12, 1927 at Shishuvinahal in the Dharwad district of Karnataka. From age 7 to 17 he trained under Panchakshari Gawai. Then for over 30 years, from 1961- 1992, he was a disciple of Mallikarjun Mansur. He also had the benefit of learning from Nivruttibuwa Sarnaik for two years. He is an A grade artiste of AIR and has served on the faculty of music at Karnatak University in Dharwad. He has received several honours, among them the Rajyotsav award from the government of Karnataka, Puttaraj Samman, and Karnatak Kalatilaka.
