About Nazakat Ali Khan and Salamat Ali Khan

The brothers Nazakat Ali Khan (1932-1983) and Salamat Ali Khan (1934-2001) were born in the Shyam Chaurasi village in Hoshiarpur district in the Punjab. Their father Vilayat Ali Khan and uncle Ahmed Ali Khan were also famous vocalists and used to sing together. Duet performances (Jugalbandi) formed a tradition of this family. Trained by their elders, Nazakat-Salamat, as they are popularly known, became great musicians and settled in Lahore after the Partition of 1947.
