Afternoon procession at the Chottanikkara Bhagvathy temple near Cochin in the Ernakulam district. Devotees believe that the temple is endowed with special powers for healing the mentally ill. Exorcism rituals include driving a wooden nail into a tree using one's forehead. The Devi here is worshipped as Saraswati in the morning, as Bhadrakali in the afternoon, and as Durga in the evening.
